Festival

One of my personal images.

House of Cool is looking for development artists as well as story artists. Please send your portfolios to us here or email wes@houseofcoolstudios.com .

I was at the Ottawa International Animation Festival last weekend. I usually go to see the short films because festivals are the best place to see a wide variety of animation styles. I felt that this year's selection was poor over all. There are always so many stand out shorts that impress, but there were only a few. There were way too many abstract and experimental films. I also noticed that there were no films in classical Disney style or much 3D. My tastes for animation is wide and I was disapointed that I didn't get the whole shebang.

I don't approve of pigs flipping the bird. Give me a job.

Did you have a chance to catch The Little Matchgirl?

It was really the only film that had the Disney style (being made by Disney and all). Whether or not you like the story is up to you I suppose though..

But it was refreshing to see some fluid 2D animation for once..

I didn't see The Little Matchgirl but I which it did. Though there were some very good films there I wish there was a great film like "Father and Daughter" or "The Wrong Trousers".

I went to years Annecy Animation Festival and I have to admit that the selection there was very poor as well. I must admit I'm not a fan of films that look good but are poor in story (e.g. The Little Matchgirl - who wants to see something that has been done to death...), on the other hand a film that has a good story will most likely help me forget flaws in animation. Still, a lot of the films in Annecy didn't get anything right and some were so amateurish that I wondered who did the selection. Ugh. Sorry to hear you disappointment in Ottawa.

well the lack of traditional 2D i think, comes down to the fact that anyone who can put their fingers on a keyboard gets paid a decent regular salary, and the people who can hold a pencil and use it well are an afterthought

here's hopin things change and artists will start getting paid again

yay 2D !

I agree with the films in the ottawa film festival not being so good this year. The abstract films has given me many naps....
Father and Daughter is an exceptional film the music, story, style and animation compliment each other..I didn't see anything comparable to it this year. Though I did see a film in the closing ceremony called Dreams & Desires: Family Ties by Joanna Quinn. The rough animation was very inspiring to watch...
Disney's The Little MatchGirl was nice, very cool transitions...but ya, the story has been done alot...
and dreamwork's first flight musical score was too epic for such a simple idea. Regardless good or bad, it's nice to see studios participating in short film festivals.

Congratulations on the short!!

seems the house is growing well

take care

Glad everythings going well...and I disagree with Cory...flipping the bird at Shawn will only leave you in traction....and not giving him a job isn't good for your health either. :)
