Kareem's Remixed.
The Rumor Mill has been in full swing as of late about the health of House of Cool. It has been said that HoC has laid off all its people and gone out of business. This is absolutely false and totally true. Here's the real scoop from the horse's mouth.
House of Cool has had to lay off almost its entire crew. The reasons behind this are many. Here are a few:
Of course, the current economy has been hard on us but this is no different than any other studio. We have had to deal with fewer sales so we had to let people go.
The type of work that HoC was being offered was not the kind that we wanted to pursue so we chose not to accept the work.
The people who work a HoC are of very high quality. So high that we were slowly losing some of our best talent to feature animation studios in the States. I can't blame them. I brought them into the studio because they were just that good.
We have decided to refocus HoC to develop more feature film and new media. We believe that television is a fun medium but it is not suited for the kind of work HoC is best at.
We have just completed a feature quality, 3D stereoscopic, animated short called "Ollie and the Baked Halibut". People worked very hard to finish this project but it is over now so we had to lay off that crew.
It has been very difficult for me to let all these very good people go. They have represented House of Cool whole heartedly and I am very thankful and greatful for their efforts in building this studio. Unfortunately we built it and it did not come. HoC is now much slimmer but we will rebuild.
The other truth is that House of Cool is also
Red Rover, our commercial arm. Comercials are doing well and we continue to do great work and bring in big clients. Check out our updated website www.houseofcool.com . We hope to have a big year with Red Rover dispite the economic downturn.
So there you have it. Thanks to all the concerned people who have been emailing me. We are still here and we will continue fighting the good fight until there is no good to fight for.
